Mumbles Knights 1st ever Match Report.

A big thank you to the Mumbles Dragons for inviting us to play them in our first ever match, and showing us how great sports men behave. Thanks Dragons we had a great time.
It was a cold wet morning so it was great to see so many of the boys arriving with smiles on their faces. The boys did well staying up right as it was very slippery under foot.
We had a strong 12 man team, Dylan did well to keep the 4 subs rolling in & out of play. Junior coach Bill Fabb did a great job keeping the subs warm and ready to go.
All the boys kept the pressure up, with lots of tagging, keeping the Dragons away from the try line. However the Dragons are a strong, mature team and their experience showed scoring 4 tries. So when Will scored we were ready to go home happy, but you can imagine my surprise when I saw those little legs powering towards the try line a second time! Well done Will!
The Dragons showed us how to end a game well with cheers and handshakes, thanks Dragons!
Thanks Mums, Dads, dogs, Grandparents & boys, Lisa & Dylan haven't stopped smiling!

**CHANGE OF VENUE to BISHOPSTON**

Dylan has arranged a Christmas treat for the boys, we will be playing a couple of matches against the under 7's, the year above us. So we'll be at BISHOPSTON playing fields. So early night after some carb loading, then be at Bishopston by 11am for the warm up!

Sunday 27 November 2011

Great training today in the sunshine at Bishopston with the other junior teams. Amazing running tags and tries today from Harry, Sam, Ryan, Jo, Ossian, Mabon, Max & Tristam there were more but I'll have to start writing them down. Next week we are at Caswell at 11am.

We have had lots of offers of support; Cai's Dad is designing us a Mumbles Knights logo, you are all helping getting the boys get in & out of their tag vests, which saves time & moves the training along. Boys and parents behave like gentlemen have a look at the link below for parent and player conduct, www.pitchero.com/clubs/mumbles/a/code-of-conduct-4300.html . If any one would like to help out with coaching let Lisa or Dylan know and we'll put you forward for CRB check and short coaching course.

If you are doing any Christmas shopping with amazon you can also raise money for the junior teams. Access amazon by clicking on the Amazon shopping link on the below sites, shop as usual and the teams get a 5% donation at no cost to you.

Christmas plans and training.

Sorry everyone I locked myself out of the blog spot, but I'm back just in time. Great rugby last weekend at Caswell, good tags and tries from Ben, Ryan, Lucas & Sam. The boys are really coming together as a team, their kicking & passing skills are improving.
So this Sunday 27th Nov 11am we're at Bishopston playing Field, meet at the comprehensive car park. We'll be there whatever the weather but keep an eye on the blog if it's extreme conditions!
There's been a bit of lost property over past few weeks, a wallet and a body warmer, Dylan has them in the kit bag let him know.
We are planning a little Christmas party at the Rugby club, date to be confirmed, it'll be bring a plate of food affair and great fun.

Not made of cardboard!

The moons have aligned & we have a 3 week stretch of training at Caswell. So 6th, 13th & 20th Nov we will be at Caswell at 11am.
The boys are a pretty hardy bunch & as my Mum would say, 'they're not made of cardboard'. So we will be there in almost any weather conditions, but check the blog in extreme weather & I'll post a message as soon as a decision is made.

Saturday 29 October 2011

We're on the beach on Sunday 30th at 11, we might even see some sunshine! Lisa is away so Dylan would be grateful for any volunteers.

Gentlemans game.

Fantastic play on Sunday. We were impressed with the boys sportsmanship, they were supportive & congratulated eachother when trys were scored.
No rugby on 23rd back on 30th at 11 on the beach.

Knight's Team Work

Fantastic session at Caswell this morning, well done Knights! They really worked together, those that were running in the wrong direction a few weeks ago, Mabon, were supporting & passing like pro's. Osian was organising the blues, great leadership, Niah did well great passes & a big smile on his face through out. Great trys from Sam, Tristan & Max. Bring on the 2031 World Cup! We also had our first girl join us, well done Ruby, by the end of the hour Ruby was keeping up with the boys.
I'd love to put some photos on the blog let me know if you don't want your child in them.
We're back at Caswell next week at 11, but we're off for half term on the 23rd Oct. Look forward to seeing you next week.

Next week we're back at Caswell at 11am. See you all there.

Tuesday 13 September 2011

Our first beach rugby session went well with a great turn out despite the wind. The boys had a great time & look like they'll become a strong team, as long as we can get them to run the right way! Our name, which will follow us until the boys are teenagers, had unanimous support it is MUMBLES KNIGHTS.
Next Sunday we will be at Bishopston Primary School, meet in the car park at 11am, we'll be training in the playing fields.
It would be great to see more players & Lisa wants more girls!

Well that's it. The end of the first season for the Dragons.

We had a our last training session of the season on Caswell beach. We all had fun playing bulldogs, relay races with the parents and finished with a game of tag rugby.

I have a number of people that I need to thank.

Thank you Dexter, Rhidian and Will for the present.

Thank you Dylan for your help.

Thank you Grant for helping us get started, for the T-Shirt and for the cash from shirt sales.

A big thank you to Nigel for helping me throughout the season. I would have been lost without you!

Finally thank you, the parents, for supporting your kids rain and shine.

I hope the kids had fun, I know that we did!

See you on the grass in a few months!

Mark, Grant and Nigel.

Saturday 7 May 2011

The Dragons played their first game against another club today. They played against Gwernyfed RFC Under 6's in Underhill Park. We then mixed with the visiting team and the Predators for another game.

I was really impressed with the Dragons they got stuck in and enjoyed themselves. That's really impressive especially when playing against bigger boys.

If anyone has photos please send them to me and I will put them on the blog.

I hope you will join us next week for our last training session. I need to collect the jerseys at the end of the session so please make sure the kids wear a T-Shirt under their jerseys.

See you on the beach,

Mark.

End of Season Newsletter

Last training session
The end of the season is almost with us. Our last training session will be at 10:30 on 15 May at Caswell.

What happens next year?
If your child will be 6+ years old on 1 September 2011 they will stay with the Dragons and start playing against other teams. If they are under 6 they can stay on the beach for another year.
The first event for everyone will be the Rugby Fun day on the ‘Cracker 7’s’ weekend. This will take place on Saturday 27 August in Underhill Park.

Welsh Rugby Union Registration
The Dragons (players over 6) need to register with the Welsh Rugby Union before they can play next year. This registration also covers personal injury insurance. We will be handing out registration cards. Please complete these, with photographs, and return them to Mark as soon as possible.

Who will the Dragons play?
We will play against other under 7’s teams in the Swansea and Gower area. The club also hosts touring sides from all over the UK. The Dragons first game next year is against South Gower (away!) on 4 September. The provisional fixture list is enclosed. All our home games will be held at Bishopston.
Communications

The Dragons have a new blog page: www.mumbles-dragons.blogspot.com

For beach players the blog address remains un-changed: www.mumblesbeachrugby.blogspot.com

The Dragons will continue to use the ‘Teamer’ web site to send you text messages about events.

Are you able to help next year?
We are looking for volunteers to run the beach rugby next year.
Nigel and I would also appreciate help with the Dragons.

If you would like to help with coaching please let Mark know. Mumbles Rugby Club will pay for you to do a tag leaders course. The courses are run by the Ospreys development officer. They are good fun and very informative. These courses are suitable for complete rugby novices. At this age it’s all about having fun.

Thank You!
I hope that your kids have enjoyed the rugby and will continue to play next year. I was really apprehensive about becoming a coach but have really enjoyed it.

Looking back at the photographs on the blog confirms just how much passion and effort the Dragons put into their playing............when they weren’t building sand castles!

Mark

Sunday 13 March 2011

Because of the high tides we played at Bishopston this week with the older tag teams. The weather was fantastic.

David won the bulldog game and scored a great try to finish.

We split into 4 groups and practiced the 'tag and pass' sequence. Will, Oliver Sam and Luca really impressed me with their passing skills.

The relay race was good fun. The Dragons passing and catching was great. Well done.

The Dragons finished by playing their first match. We joined the Mumbles Predators and played in 2 games. Nigel Grant and I were really proud of how well everyone played.

A few parents have asked if they should get 'togs' (rugby or football boots). I think it's a good idea. The kids love them. We will be playing on the grass again this year. You can get a really good quality pair for a reasonable price in discount sports shops such as Sports Direct in town.

Nigel found a child's Fat Face coat. He will bring this next week.

Well done Dragons you were great!

See you on the beach next week. We will return to Bishopston on 27 March.

Nigel, Grant and Mark.

Sunday 27 February 2011

On 27 February The Dragons played some really good rugby despite the poor weather.

We thought the ospreys and ostriches game would help develop reaction times and tagging skills. What it did do was to identify those Dragons with initiative; more commonly know as cheats!

Last week, 6 March, Dexter won the bulldog game, again! Sam really impressed me with the quality of his passes. Will and David scored fantastic tries in the tag game.

Next week the tide is in and we will need to play at a different venue.

Training times are now displayed on the right hand side of the Blog page.

See you next week.

Nigel, Mal and Mark.

Some fantastic photos from Luca's dad

We had a great session last week. It was nice to be back on the beach after a couple of cancelled training sessions.

We were joined by some new Dragons.

I was really pleased with the rugby, especially the tag game at the end.

After the rugby we went back to the club for hot dogs.

Hope to see you on the beach next Sunday.

Nigel and Mark.

Dragons hit the beach again after the Christmas break

The Dragons were back on the beach today after the Christmas break. We had a great time in lovely weather.

The team looked fantastic in their new jerseys.

We welcomed a new Dragon to our team today. Roan played really well and scored 2 tries in his fist game. Well done!

Dexter won the bulldog game and then beat the rest of the team who were trying to tag him. Luca did some fantastic tagging.

I was really pleased with how everyone played today but we still need to improve our passing and catching. If you get a chance try and practice this at home.

See you on the beach next week,

Mark, Nigel and Mal.
