At last, the sun was back, just in time for the last training day of 2009 and what a way to finish the year? The Predators scored lots of tries today, with all players showing their skills. Well done to Zoey & Ethan winning the bulldogs & great tries coming from all, highlights being James, Aiden, Rhys, Will, Daff & Luke. Yellows just scrapped a win against the reds, well done yellows your support play & reds for gaining the most tags, all in all the best game of the season so far.

Hope everyone enjoyed the hot dogs, including us Dads! Thank you for the Wildcat Mums for making us so welcome and cooking the Predators well deserved fodder.

See you all next week for the Parents V Predators, we may also have a debut match playing with the Vikings U7's. Keep an eye on the blog for arrangements.

The Predators win the battle with winter conditions!

For the third week in a row all Mumbles RFC junior rugby was cancelled. All, except for the youngest side, the predators. This week Tony and I were very proud of all the predators, Mums & Dads as we won the battle against the elements fighting sleet, rain and cold wind.

It was great to see a new team member Rhys T, we hope to see you next week. All the players did very well, we were particularly pleased with the several series of passes put together even though some of the players had cold hands. Also support play was very good in general. Our main focus this week was to keep moving, running and stay as warm as possible. Thank you to Owen & Myles for making up the player numbers and assisting the coaches for the day.

Next week we have some special surprises for the predators that may help any further fights with mother nature. We would be particularly pleased if all players old and new could make an extra effort to attend this coming week, as we would like to issue some winter kit & give each player a half term report. We would like to meet regardless of weather at 11.15am at the cafe on the beach, the plan is to have a short presentation then training weather permitting. If the weather is bad we can use this time to cover some new registrations & feedback. Keep an eye on the blog for an update.

Friday 27 November 2009

Keep your fingers crossed for good weather

The tide is on our side. The players are keen. We just need the weather. So we will plan for 11.15am and hope for the best. Keep an eye on the blog. We will make a decision by 10.00am Sunday with an update on the blog and a text to all (as long as we have a mobile contact).

Hope to see you all there!

Sunday 22 November 2009

Rugby is cancelled

Weather seems to be getting worse, not better. Keep an eye on the blog for next week.

Friday 20 November 2009

Rain forecast for Sunday

Once again I would like to apologise for the late cancellation last Sunday. Hopefully you all got a text.
Unfortunately heavy rain is forecast again this weekend but on Sunday morning it turns heavy to light late morning. So we will try for 11.15am meet and will brave light rain. Any worse conditions, please keep an eye on the blog anytime up until about 11.00am.
There is no getogether at the cricket club this week as all Mumbles Rugby teams are playing away. We will rearrange for another time.

Tuesday 17 November 2009

Gig at the rugby Club next Saturday

The Contenders are playing a Gig at Mumbles Rugby club next Saturday. Watch the Argentina match then rock the night away.

The Contenders are sponsoring the under 12s team this season, so all proceeds will be going to their new kit. Txt Mike G if you want tickets (07846 334962). £3 in advance or on the night. Bargain.

Sunday 15 November 2009

Beach rugby cancelled!

All Mumbles Rugby cancelled, including Beach Rugby, due to general high winds and cold rain. The get together at the Cricket Club is also cancelled. Hopefully we won't have too many disappointed players.

Let's hope our good luck with the weather returns next week. Keep an eye on the blog.

Thursday 12 November 2009

11.15 am Beach Rugby & Hotdogs !

This week we will have a later start once again, hope this time is OK with everyone.

Every week the Mumbles RFC U'7's 8's & 9's (all tag teams) have started to meet at mumbles cricket club for hot dogs. This week we have an invite to join them. The sides normally play at Bishopston school and arrive at the club between 11.30 & 12 noon. This will give the predators a taste of what is to come next season.

The facility is ideal for the kids and provides a mini social for parents. I plan to speak to the caterers and organise some extra hot dogs for the "predators". If we arrive for circa 12.30 I hope the hot dog rush will be over and the predators can fill their boots. This will be an ideal opportunity to get some feedback from parents, organise registration ,subs & discuss forthcoming events for example the Mumbles Tag Rugby Christmas Party & The traditional Christmas Parents v Mumbles Predators game that must take place before the end of the year. So I hope you can all make it to the club for a short while. See you on the beach for 11.15am, Jon.

For Directions to Mumbles Cricket Club please see link on Wildcats or Vikings page.

Sunday 8 November 2009

Tag--tastic !!!!

We have had some great luck with the weather, today being no exception. The beach welcomed us with large waves, sunshine & lolly pops.

Great to be back on home soil (sand)! It was good to have an almost full squad on the beach, made up of some new faces. I thought the new young lady that had her debut, did particularly well, scoring a try and winning two of the warm ups. Sorry Mum, I should have given you a reg.form, see you next time.

Today was very pleasing for Chris, Tony & I as it was the first time the predators tagged six times in a row to claim the ball from the opposite team. Both red & yellow teams were tagtastic! Once again Will, James, Dav & Ethan showed great defensive skills and some seriously body-on-the-line tags.

Both Torin & Oliver did some great running in bulldogs today, with the try fest provided by all players - the best in my opinion coming from Luke (from Ethan), when the yellows showed great support play. Hope all players enjoyed the new games, we will practice these over the next few weeks.

Making a Plan & discussing tactics !

Deserved Refreshments !

See you all next week, weather & tide depending, keep an eye on the blog for times.

Thursday 5 November 2009

11am start & back to the beach!!

This week we will be having a later start, hope that is OK for all. Once again their is a particular high tide which arrives at 9.30am & the park is flooded due to the monsoon rains. See you at 11am on the beach, boys don't forget warm clothes as the temperature has now dropped and you can always remove layers if needed.

Friday 30 October 2009

No Beach rugby this weekend 1st November

Due to half-term break there will be no beach rugby this weekend, see you back down at Caswell next weekend the 8th, time to be confirmed.

Tuesday 27 October 2009

The Predators Graced Underhill Park

It was great to see the predators play so well on grass. Highlights of the session came from Will & James who showed some great tagging skills with strong running & scores coming from Luke, Louis, Ethan, Rees & Torin.

This week we had a spy up at the Ospreys tag training ground in LLandarcy, so over the next couple of weeks we will be introducing some new games & fun warm ups.

The park provided a good alternative venue to the beach when we have high tide. I was asked why we don't play there all the time? The main reasons are, officially all the predators would need boots and also we do not have an official slot from the park keeper or Mumbles RFC, however this will all change next year.

Hope everybody enjoyed the extra hour in bed not like coach Jon & family, who forgot about the time change and turned up at the park one hour early! Stop Laughing!

Keep an eye on the blog for next weeks arrangements !

Friday 23 October 2009

Change of venue for this weekend!

The tide is against us this week so we will be meeting at Underhill Park near the swings for 9.15am. If the players have boots they can wear them, otherwise trainers as usual will be fine.

Ps. Please remember any outstanding registration forms. We will also be collecting a joining fee of £5.00 per player.

Sunday 11 October 2009

It was Wet and Windy

Well done to all the players who made it to a wet and windy practise! It was our first weather challenge and the arrival of players persuaded the coaches to continue as planned.

The prime objective of the session was to stay busy and warm and we all got a good workout. Everyone should sleep well tonight! During the game once again there was some great solo tries and the coaches noticed the beginnings of some good support players. Well done, see you next week - 9.15am.

A note to the parents: We will be looking to start collecting subs for the Mumbles Predators account next week. We are proposing a £5.00 joining fee with a £4.00/month standing order. All monies will be spent on the team.

Lastly, please pass the word around to any interested Year 1's who would like to join The Predators. We are hoping to build a full side for next season's fixtures down at Underhill Park.

Monday 5 October 2009

More great weather at the beach

Sunday morning gave us another great day for beach rugby. The players were in full spirit and enjoyed the usual warm-up, drills and game of TAG rugby.

Welcome to Torin who displayed winning talent with good tagging skills and a debut try. Other tries came from Louis, Luke and James. Well done lads!

This Sunday (11th) the tide will be coming in, and we will be tight for time and possibly space. But not wanting to disappoint the players we will begin at 9.00am and play for as long as the tide allows. See you down the beach.

Friday 2 October 2009

"Mumbles Predators" have arrived!

Following agreement from the players on Sunday, we have decided on our name: "Mumbles Predators".

After a good warm-up, a passing skills practice and an introduction to the TAG belts the players impressed the coaches with their first game of TAG rugby. All players had the opportunity to handle the ball with tries from James, Mason, Ethan, Will and Louis, giving a result of Reds: 3, Yellows: 3.

We hope to see more of the same next week. Same time of 9.15am.

Thursday 24 September 2009

Same place, same time.

High tide is around 11.50am this Sunday, so we will be meeting at 9.15am as usual. See you there.

Sunday 20 September 2009

High tide delays kick off!

After an unexpected high tide delay, apologies to all, our second session kicked off as planned with 11 keen players. Welcome to the three newcomers, Marley, Jess and Louis.

This week we introduced "stuck in the sand/mud" which the children thoroughly enjoyed. Mason and Ethan's side stepping skills impressed Coach Chris. All players now understand the rules of touch and try lines though practice is still required.

After splitting into two relay teams Coach Jon was pleased that all players scored some great tries and Oliver and Will showed some great ball skills.

During the end of training game Luke, Rees and James showed excellent support skills with Dav running in two late tries. Well done all! See you again next week for our first game of TAG!

Parents please can you remember the registration forms. See you again next Sunday, time still to be confirmed depending on tide times.

Sunday 13 September 2009

U6's kick off with fantastic weather at Caswell

Well wow, what a good start to this season's beach rugby! The weater was definitely on our side.

All fourteen players impressed the coaches (Jon, Tony and Chris) by learning fast. After the warm-up the theory of try and touch lines was quickly understood. Splitting into groups of two's and three's they demonstrated their ball skills and learnt how to pass the ball across their body with pointed fingers in the direction of their receiving team mate. It was heard that one team claimed 110 passes! Let's hope their optimism continues. It was a productive hour which ended with several games of "Touch bulldog" and a game of touch rugby producing 3 tries!

Parents please remember your signed registration forms and we hope to see you all down the beach again next Sunday at 9.15am. To all the boys and girls, well done!

Wednesday 9 September 2009

Mumbles Beach Rugby 2009 wants you!

Hello to all Year One's (boys and girls). Come join us on Caswell Beach, Sunday morning 13th Sept 9.15 - 10.00am. And if you struggle to get your parents out and about, remind them there is a great cafe serving hot drinks, bacon butties etc.

Dress according to the weather and only trainers necessary.
All welcome!

Monday 11 May 2009

End of the Season!

We were blessed with great sunshine and warmth at Underhill on Sunday, and a great time was had by all. The Vikings team did really well and should in no way be put off by some of the Wildcats players! You will definately all be able to run and score tries in games next season when you play against teams of your own age!

On behalf of Grant and I, thanks for the beers! It has been a pleasure to work with your sons over the last season and we look forward to many more exciting opportunities ahead!

Have a great Summer and see you all fit and raring to go in September!

Sponsorship and help for next years beach team

We have come to that time when we are thinking about next year. Many of the older junior club teams have kit sponsors. This involves kind donations from establishments helping towards the cost of a kit for the Mumbles Vikings for next year. Obviously the more sponsorship we can get, the more kit items we are able to supply to the boys in the team. If you or if you know of anyone who may be in a position to help with this for next season please speak to Grant at the beach and he will be able to provide more details.

We have also had some parents asking about coaching for next season at the beach for the next team coming through the age groups. All current coaches for the Vikings will be moving from the beach to the park for Sunday morning tag rugby. Therefore the new beach rugby team for next year is in need of some coaches. We have one Dad say he is keen to get involved but due to work commitments is unable to "front" the coaching team.

Obviously, the people who decide to give it a go will not be alone, they can draw upon the expert knowledge of Grant and also have the opportunity to go on Osprey run coaching courses to help with ideas to keep the team entertained for an hour on the beach!

Again, if you know of anyone or if you have a son/daughter who is the right age for next year and want to get involved please speak to Grant, Lee or Matthew (or email mathrees@btinternet.com) at the beach so we can help get you started.

Saturday 28 March 2009

Great Session today - despite the weather!

I think it is safe to say that all boys have progressed really well this term. Thinking back to the standard we had when we first started, all boys have moved on and are beginning to understand the game of rugby. It is really good to see them enjoying the experience, which hopefully will keep them interested for the rest of their lives!

There will be no session next week due to some of the coaches going on a camping trip! I shall let you decide which one is Grant, and which is Matthew.

Tuesday 24 March 2009

Training this week, and news of our first fixture!

As we are nearing the end of the rugby season, we are beginning to think of introducing the boys into a full tag game situation. The next age group up from our team is the Mumbles Wildcats. They have invited us to Underhill Park for a tag tournament. The dates for this will be sometime in May, hopefully we can choose a sunny Saturday or Sunday morning for the game. The idea is that we will split up into 3 mixed teams and everyone will play each other to get an idea of what is in store for next season.

We will hold a session from 9.30 this saturday at the beach, there is a high tide at around 7 am but hopefully there will be enough sand for us to have a run on at our usual time.

Tuesday 17 March 2009

Session 9.30 at the beach 21st March

In preparation for an afternoon / early evening televisual feast of rugby, we will have a session at the beach at the usual time.

See you all then!

Tuesday 10 March 2009

Training Saturday 14th March

The Sea seems to be against us regularly this year! Full tide at about 8.30 - quite a high one too. With the weather forecast not looking to promising either we have decided to call off the training for the team this week.

One or two have asked if we could train on Underhill but there isn't much to be learned playing tag rugby in a bog. The boys have a great introduction to rugby and there is no need to put them off in the wind and rain.

Enjoy your lie in!

Predictions for the 6 Nations games;

Italy 6 Wales 21
Scotland 12 Ireland 15
England 3 France 21 (Sorry Scott!)

Monday 2 March 2009

Sring has Sprung - training at the beach this Saturday

Hopefully, we will be able to feel the warmth of the early spring sunshine on our backs this Saturday. Meet at 9.30 at Caswell for training this week.

See you all there.

Tuesday 24 February 2009

Saturday 28th February

The tides are not favourable for us again on Saturday, so we will make the call to have a session down at Underhill at 9.30 this Saturday morning.

Hopefully we will be reliving the events of the previous night - a fine Welsh victory.

Tuesday 17 February 2009

Half Term Training

21st February, last weekend of half term. All the coaches are away this weekend at various glamorous holiday destinations. Therefore there is no training this saturday morning. We hope to be back in action the following saturday.

As usual, keep an eye on the blog for further updates.

Monday 9 February 2009

No training on 14th February

We have decided to call off the training session early this week.

The tides are high at 9.24 and with more rain forecast for this week, it is likely that the parks pitches will be unplayable also. All council run parks pitches were out of bounds last Saturday and Sunday so they are likely to call them off again.

Saturday 7 February 2009

Training off!

Just had a message from Grant. Caswell Hill only has one lane going up/down and it is quite icy.
Unfortunately because of this we will have to cancel training this morning.

7th Feb - Training update..........

As we speak our intrepid Head Coach, and part time arctic explorer, Grant is venturing out to see what the conditions of the roads are like around Caswell. He should be arriving back at his base camp within the next ten minutes or so.

I shall report back on here as soon as we have had a discussion about the feasibility of a run around at the beach this morning.

Watch this space!

Wednesday 4 February 2009

Training back on - hopefully!

The tides are favourable this Saturday and weather permitting we shall meet in our usual spot at 9.30.

If there is a sudden downpour of snow, or if the roads are too dangerous to drive on, especially Caswell Hill, we shall notify on here before Saturday morning.

Wednesday 28 January 2009

TRAINING CANCELLED THIS SATURDAY

Due to the tides this Saturday (high tide at 9.10) and also with Underhill Park likely to be unusable due to rain we have no option but to cancel training this weekend.

Hopefully we will be back in action the following week.

Sunday 18 January 2009

Training at the park

Apologies from us for the moving of venues at short notice and thanks for your cooperation with this!

We eventually got started down at Underhill and had a good session - some great improvements are being made by the team in all areas. It was great to see a new face also in Lawrence who is the first boy from Newton school to join us.

We hope to revert back to the beach next Saturday at 9.30am. Weather permitting. Check the blog later in the week for any change of time/venue. If there is no change, see you bright and early at Caswell!

One thing the boys can have a think about over the next couple of weeks. We need a name for our team for the rest of our "tag rugby" years. The older teams have the names, Mumbles Wild Catz, Mumbles Crusaders and Mumbles Pirates.

Grant demonstrates to the team how to run around like Superman.

Apologies.........

Apologies to those who found our 'beach pitch' flooded this week. On close inspection, the car park grass was found to be unsuitable too.In such future circumstances, (as we eventually did today), we will revert to Underhill Park top pitch (next to car park). Unless this is flooded too!Hope to see you on the beach next Saturday 0930 hrs - the tides are favourable (honest!)regards

Grant

Monday 12 January 2009

9.30 start next saturday

There is a high tide at 1038 this staurday, but the tide is not particularly "big". We will aim for a 930 start, and if our pitch gets flooded, we will revert to plan B!

Plan B!
If you have boots bring these just in case. There is a small patch of grass at the back of the car park that we could use.

Coaches tips for players to work on.

Listen carefully to the intructions.
Remember the right way to tag; grab the tag and stop running, hold it up, shout "TAG!", hand it back to the person when they have passed the ball then get back ready to make another tag.

Keep up the great work!

Sunday 4 January 2009

Happy New Year!

Welcome back to Beach Rugby! This year will see us take the team from the beach up to the parks and various different rugby clubs for actual games of tag! Very exciting!

The first session this year will be at the usual place at 9.30am this Saturday 10th January.

Look forward to seeing you all there then!
